Policies & How to get the most out of your lessons!

A commitment to Practicing is the most important thing you can bring to your lessons! Our brains are very, very smart, and learn what is expected quickly, but it takes longer for our bodies to first UNDERSTAND what is needed, and then to make that need into a HABIT that comes naturally. Jennifer will gladly show you how to sing, but it is up to you to make those skills into habits!

Other Important Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your Lessons:

  • Schedule lessons on a weekly basis-then keep your appointment! Cancellations are only accepted 24 hours in advance, and we will always try to reschedule rather than cancel.
  • If you are sick enough to stay home from school/work, let Jennifer know ASAP-and we will reschedule.
  • Be punctual, or even a little early.
  • Chose your lesson time (30, 45, or 60 minutes, or 60-minute group lessons) by your age and experience level. Under age 12, 30 minutes is a good place to start. Over 12, 45- or 60-minute lessons will give you the best experience.
  • Buy your music-don't steal it! Jennifer will gladly help you choose appropriate music, and point you in the right direction to find it legally.
  • Bring:
    • A water bottle
    • Your music! (if photocopied, in a BINDER, not a folder)
    • A pencil
    • A notebook, or loose-leaf in your binder.
    • A recorder (digital, tape, or your phone or i-pad)
  • Optional:
    • Choir or other music you are using in other groups
    • A Metronome (can now be found as an app and online)
  • Be alert for performance opportunities!
    • When possible, Jennifer will host an annual recital, and some fun singing parties during the year!
  • Check your email regularly-this is Jennifer's primary mode of communication. No text messages please!
